Juan BassHead / BassHead Music / Miami
"OLD SCHOOL SET"
Juan grew up in Miami with bass in his blood. A classically trained pianist and singer, his musical ear was tuned starting at a very young age. As a youngster he made his own mixtapes by recording local underground radio, as a teen he attended local raves, and eventually in 2001 he put on his own event "Nickel Bag of Funk". It's 2014 and he's still around, now more than ever. The 2010 Miami New Times "Best DJ" (Reader's Choice) sound is an unclassifiable mix of all things "party" and "bass" with a distinct Miami flavor. His years behind the decks are evidenced by his obvious lack of restriction by genre. This unique concoction of sounds is one that has garnered him the privilege of playing for crowds far and wide, from Los Angeles to London, including multiple appearances at Italy's Sun & Bass festival, and seminal UK bass nights such as dmZ, Sin City, and the popular Get Darker online radio broadcast. That distinctive sound also was the catalyst for team BassHead's win at the 2013 Rebull Music Academy Culture Clash. He is a staple of the local bass scene with regular appearances like his residency with GET LOW at the Vagabond, One Night in Miami at Club Space, The Fillmore, Nine Mile Music Festival (Marley Fest), Ultra Music Festival, Candyland, FSOB, all sorts of other clubs and one-off raves, in addition to a full slate of Miami Music Week (WMC) events, including the "SMOG vs BASSHEAD" event which was chosen as the best event of Miami Music Week / WMC 2012 by Mixmag. He has also taken his sound overseas, most notably representing his hometown "the city of bass" for their semi-regular residency with Sin City Recordings at Fabric Nightclub in London, considered by many to be *the* mekka of clubbing on the planet. BassHead Music is a label run by Juan and D&B hero A-Sides. It boasts releases by artists such as 12th Planet, Skream, Bassnectar, Datsik, dj Sneak, Otto Von Schirach, and more.
